The Glorious 15 minutes on the Summit
KEDARKANTHA
TREK
Every year I
plan to start and end my year by traveling to a new place, it either starts with
a trek or ends with the trek.
So this year
the plan was to go for the kedarkantha trek with none other than the craziest
family ‘Audaciious hikerss’.
So the journey started on the 21st of
December from Pune, we boarded our train from Pune to Mumbai early in the
morning reached Panvel station around 11am and then got to know the good news
that our train is delayed by 4hrs at the beginning then it went on increasing
by an hour each and ended up by 6hrs delay. We were a group of 36 people and in
those 6hrs we all had set up a mini home at Panvel station, started with the
breakfast then playing cards and a mini photo session on the platform. Finally,
after 6hrs of delay boarded our train towards Delhi and started the journey
reached Delhi and boarded our bus towards Haridwar and reached Haridwar at
midnight had our dinner and all went of to sleep as we all had to wake up early
next day. On 23rd early morning we boarded our bus to Sankri
village that was our base village, traveling all the way from Dehradun Mussoorie
and small villages, crossing multiple valleys, Ghats, and amazing scenic views
we reached sankri at night the long journey of 12-13 hrs were finally over in 2 degree Celsius temperature. The next morning started our trek and reached the
base camp by afternoon, had a delicious lunch followed by some photo session till the evening as the sun loves to play hide and seek in the mountains. Gathered
for a small bonfire in one of the stalls nearby and then had our dinner under the
starlit sky.
Gazing at
the sky full of stars is all that we needed to end the beautiful day in the Mountains.
The next day early morning started the hike to the second base camp , enjoyed
the trail covered with snow, and that happiness to reach before the sunset was
amazing. Watched the pretty sunset and went to sleep early as we had to start the
hike for the summit early in the morning around 4 am.
Another beautiful
morning, started our hike and somehow
managed to reach the summit by sunrise and looking at the sun rising from 12500ft
and that view was just breathtaking. Just soaked into that golden light and
spent the best 15 minutes looking at the mountains all around. With a heavy
heart started to descend the summit capturing all the glimpse from the summit through
eyes with the satisfaction of completing my first snow trek.
Trekking in the mountains may look fun, but it is not for the faint of heart. It takes a lot of determination and willpower to complete a hike and reach the summit and sometimes the descend is an even more challenging journey that one has to face. But at the end of the day, you are going to realize that is the challenges and hardships that will make you stronger as a hiker and as a person. As a matter of fact, there are many things you learn from hiking in the mountains that you can apply in your own life.
Hence the quote by Sir Edmund Hillary: It’s not the mountain that we conquer but ourselves.
